Rajasthan's Offbeat Destinations for Sustainable Tourism - Sawai Madhopur

Updated: Dec 6, 2022

Rajasthan is every tourist's dream. It is known for its extensive history, stunning architecture, warm hospitality, dramatic desert vistas, and world-famous Ranthambore National Park. Many tourists from around the world travel to the state to experience its regal splendor. The Government of Rajasthan and the public are implementing a number of initiatives to lessen the environmental effects of tourism and promote activities that support the local community's sustainable means of subsistence.

In today’s series, let’s take you to Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur where practicing responsible tourism will benefit the locals, the environment, and the general public.

One of the best spots in India to watch tigers in the wild is Sawai Madhopur in western Rajasthan, which is home to the well-known Ranthambhore National Park. A total of 272 different kinds of birds as well as creatures including the jackal, mongoose, sloth bear, leopard, sambar, chital, nilgai, gazelle, and boars live here. Lakes and abandoned forts can be found in this national park. Also worthwhile is a trip to Ranthambhore Fort, a place where responsible tourism is needed the most.

Tips for sustainable tourism in Sawai Madhopur:

  • Take a wildlife jeep safari with responsible travel company such as Ranthambore Jeep Safari

  • Instead of using canters or mini buses for a jungle safari, go for a jeep as it minimizes carbon emissions

  • Don't buy any product that came from a wild animal

  • Do not ask the jeep to go faster during the jungle safari as it disturbs the animals
